Bhagavad Gita: Starting Prayer

To be recited in the beginnng of daily Gita's study.

ॐ
श्रीपरमात्मने नमः
श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता

Om, Salutations to the Supreme God.
Salutations to the Glorious Bhagavad Gita.

ॐ पार्थाय प्रतिबोधितां भगवता नारायणेन स्वयं
व्यासेन ग्रथितां पुराणमुनिना मध्येमहाभारतम् ।
अद्वैतामृतवर्षिणीं भगवतीमष्टादशाध्यायिनी –
मम्ब त्वामनुसंदधामि भगवद्गीते भवद्वेषिणीम् ।।१।।

Om. O Bhagavad Gita, with which Partha was illumined by Lord Narayana Himself, and which was composed within the Mahabharata by the ancient sage, Vyasa, O Divine Mother, the destroyer of rebirth, the showerer of the nectar of Advaita, and consisting of eighteen discourses, upon You, O Gita, O affectionate Mother, I meditate.

नमोऽस्तु ते व्यास विशालबुद्धे फुल्लारविन्दायतपत्रनेत्र ।
येन त्वया भारततैलपूर्णः प्रज्वालितो ज्ञानमयः प्रदीपः ।।२।।

Salutations unto You, O Vyasa, of broad intellect and with eyes like the petals of a full-blown lotus, by whom the lamp of knowledge, filled with the oil of the Mahabharata, has been lighted.

प्रपन्नपारिजाताय तोत्त्रवेत्रैकपाणये ।
ज्ञानमुद्राय कृष्णाय गीतामृतदुहे नमः ।।३।।

Salutations to Lord Krishna, the Parijata or the Kalpataru or the bestower of all desires for those who take refuge in Him, the holder of the whip in one hand, the holder of the symbol of divine knowledge and the milker of the divine nectar of the Bhagavad Gita.

वसुदेवसुतं देवं कंसचाणूरमर्दनम् ।
देवकीपरमानन्दं कृष्णं वन्दे जगद्गुरुम् ।।४।।

Salutations to the world teacher Krishna, Who is the son of Vasudeva, and God himself, Who killed Kamsa and Chanura, and the source of great joy to Devaki.

भीष्मद्रोणतटा जयद्रथजला गान्धारनीलोत्पला
शल्यग्राहवती कृपेण वहनी कर्णेन वेलाकुला ।
अश्वत्थामविकर्णघोरमकरा दुर्योधनावर्तिनी
सोत्तीर्णा खलु पाण्डवै रणनदी कैवर्तक केशवः ।।५।।

With Kesava as the helmsman, verily was crossed by the Pandavas the battle-river, whose banks were Bhishma and Drona, whose water was Jayadratha, whose blue lotus was the king of Gandhara, whose crocodile was Salya, whose current was Kripa, whose billow was Karna, whose terrible alligators were Vikarna and Asvatthama, whose whirlpool was Duryodhana.

पाराशर्यवचः सरोजममलं गीतार्थगन्धोत्कटं
नानाख्यानककेसरं हरिकथासम्भोधनाबोधितम् ।
लोके सज्जनषट्पदैरहरहः पेपीयमानं मुदा
भूयाद्भारतपङ्कजं कलिमलप्रध्वंसि नः श्रेयसे ।।६।।

May this lotus of the Mahabharata, born in the lake of the words of Vyasa, sweet with the fragrance of the meaning of the Gita, with many stories as its stamens, fully opened by the discourses of Hari, the destroyer of the sins of Kali, and drunk joyously by the bees of good men in the world, become day by day the bestower of good to us.

मूकं करोति वाचालं पंगुं लङ्घयेते गिरिम् ।
यत्कृपा तमहं वन्दे परमानन्दमाधवम् ।।७।।

I salute that Madhava, the source of supreme bliss, Whose Grace makes the dumb eloquent and the cripple cross mountains.

(Meditation on the Gita)

शान्ताकारं भुजगशयनं पद्मनाभं सुरेशं
विश्वाधारं गगनसदृशं मेघवर्णं शुभाङ्गम् ।
लक्ष्मीकान्तं कमलनयनं योगिभिर्ध्यानगम्यम्
वन्दे विष्णुं भवभयहरं सर्वलोकैकनाथम् ।।

Salutations to Lord Vishnu Who is the embodiment of peace, Who rests on a shesha serpent, Who has a lotus on His navel, Who is the lord of the Devas, Who sustains the Universe, Who is boundless and infinite like the sky, Who is dark like the rain-clouds, and Who has a beautiful and auspicious body,
Who is the beloved of Goddess Lakshmi, Whose eyes are like lotus, Who is meditated upon by the Yogis, Who removes the fear of worldly existence, and Who is the lord of all the Lokas.

यं ब्रह्मा वरुणेन्द्ररुद्रमरुतः स्तुन्वन्ति दिव्यैः स्तवै –
र्वेदैः साङ्गपदक्रमोपनिषदैर्गायन्ति यं सामगाः ।
ध्यानावस्थिततद्गतेन मनसा पश्यन्ति यं योगिनो
यस्यान्तं न विदुः सुरासुरगणा देवाय तस्मै नमः ।।

Salutations to that God Whom Brahma, Indra, Varuna, Rudra and the Maruts praise with divine hymns, of whom the Sama-chanters sing by the Vedas and their Angas (in the Pada and Krama methods), and by the Upanishads,
Whom the Yogis see with their minds absorbed in Him through meditation, and Whose ends the hosts of Devas and Asuras know not!

त्वमेव माता च पिता त्वमेव
त्वमेव बन्धुश्च सखा त्वमेव ।
त्वमेव विद्या द्रविणं त्वमेव
त्वमेव सर्वं मम देवदेव ।।

You are my mother, My father You are; You are my relative, My friend You are,
You are my knowledge, My wealth You are; You are my everything, O Lord of Lords!
