Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram
Vishnu Sahasranama: Mantra with Meaning
Vishnu Sahasranama is a Sanskrit devotional hymn which contains the thousand names of Lord Vishnu. It is one of the most sacred and popular stotras in Hinduism. The Vishnu Sahasranama is found in the 149th chapter Anushasanika Parvam of the Great Epic Mahabharatha. Each name eulogizes one of His countless great attributes.
Prince Yudhisthira, the eldest of the pandavas, at the end of the war approached Bhishma Pitamaha, the mighty grandsire of the Kuru family, when he was lying on the bed of arrows awaiting the scared hour of his departure to the feet of the lord. Yudhisthira asked Bhishma the six questions on how to attain the highest goal, be free from sufferings, and who is to be worshipped. To his question, Bhishma stated that mankind will be free from all sorrows by chanting the thousand names of Lord Vishnu Who is the all-pervading Supreme Brahman, the Master of the worlds, the Supreme Light, and the Essence of the Universe.
Composed By: Veda Vyasa
Supreme form of Lord Vishnu/Krishna
Play the music, and sing the stotra along with it. The 2nd verse of Mulapatha is not in the audio.

Lord Shiva replied:
Hey beautiful One, My mind enjoys saying Rama, Rama and Rama.
Chanting of the name Rama is equal to the chanting of Sahasranama, O lovely-faced Goddess!
Note: The name Rama (of Lord Vishnu) is so auspicious that it alone suffices all other names of the Lord.
But it doesn’t insist that Sahasranama should everytime be replaced by the name of Rama. The Sahasranama has its own significance as well, as it contains the most auspicious names of the Lord (Rama and Krishna) along with other auspicious names like Govinda, Achyuta, Narayana, etc. Therefore, one can choose any or both if he desires to sing verses on Lord with full devotion. But he should always remember that he is praising the same Lord, just by different names and hymns.
I have selected the most beautiful hymn of Lord Rama in which Lord Shiva Himself came into the dream of Sage Budha Kaushika and sung the verses. The hymn itself contains the above verse in the end. Read this most beautiful Stotra of Lord Rama by clicking here.
