Shatpadi Stotram is a glorious composition of Shri Adi Shankaracharya that is soaked in the devotion of the Lord Vishnu and prayer to His lotus feet for getting liberation from this worldly existence. While Shri Shankara’s poetic genius is expressed in the style, his benevolence is evident in each word that is a precise instruction to us for the purification of the mind.

O Vishnu! Leading away from egoism, fill my mind with peace and destroy the enduring greed for desires. Expand my mind with compassion for all beings, and help me cross the ocean of worldly existence (rebirth).

I salute the lotus-feet of Vishnu (the Lord of Lakshmi), which is like a celestial river of holy pollen grains, which is fragrant and full of eternal pleasures, and which cuts off the fear and sorrow of worldly existence.

O Lord! Even at the time of true realization, when I see no differences, I am nothing but a part of You. But You are never my part, for a tide (wave) is a part of the ocean but ocean can never be a part of the tide.

The One Who lifted the Govardhan Mountain, Who is the younger brother of the enemy of the mountain (Indra), Who is the enemy of the race of demons, and Who has sun and moon for His eyes; once You are seen, is there anything that will remain to be happened in this mortal world?

The One Who took various incarnations to protect this world, starting from Matsya (fish) and well looked after, forever, this entire Earth, O Lord, Who is the greatest of all, please protect me who is afraid of the sufferings of worldly life.

O Damodara, Who was tied by a rope in the belly, Who is the temple of good qualities, and Who has a lotus face, O Govinda, Who is the care-taker of all beings, Who is like Mandara Mountain in the matter of churning the ocean of worldly life, please remove the immense fear from my life.

O Narayana, Who is full of compassion, I salute Your lotus-like feet. May these six verses, which is like six-legged bee, reside always in my lotus-like mouth.

Thus ends Vishnu Shatpadi Stotram composed by Shri Shankaracharya.

    1. Read the Stotra, everything is mentioned there. Read with pure heart without the thought of any desires. God knows what you want, you don't need to remember it everytime while praying or singing His hymns. Increase your virtue, establish your connection with God. God knows when to give you the desired results. Just be patient. Everything happens when the right time comes.
Most of the Stotras here are soul-lifting rather than fulfilling material desires. Thank you. Keep on reading.

    1. This kind of consultation should be done only to the practitioner of meditation (or what we call Guru), others simply pour their thoughts based upon internet articles or their own imagination. I cannot give you the answer because i am not a practitioner. Most people practice meditation for physical and mental benefit. There is desire in it. People count days or hours they meditate, in order to experience expected results. If they don't experience any, they stop doing it. But here, singing Stotra (or Mantra Meditation) is different thing. Here, you won't have any material desire. You do it just because you want to. You won't care whether you achieve something or not. You believe in God, and you will still believe that everything happens when the time comes. You will believe in Karma, because that's what you will be learning in hymns. You are not hurried, nor you get demotivated. You have zero desire other than experiencing God (or Soul or Truth) which is completely pure (Sattvic) desire.

      Keep on reading.

  5. Thank you so much for posting the shloka with meanings. My father used to chant it everyday, had I known real meaning as a child, I would have discussed this too with him. It has been 2 years that Papa has left but these habits have helped me get some solace.
Also, I read your responses on comments, very thoughtful and reliving. Thanks again!
